DAWN FOODS PRODUCTS, INC. ANNOUNCES COMPLETE
ZERO GRAMS TRANS FAT DONUT PROGRAM
All Forms of Donuts Included to Meet Customer Expectations
JACKSON, Mich. (May 13, 2008) – Today, most health-conscious people want to consume products that taste great and have little or no trans fats. That’s why Dawn Food Products, a global producer of bakery products and one of the world’s largest independently owned bakery manufacturers and distributors, has introduced a complete zero grams trans fat (ZGTF) donut program. Dawn created this program to keep pace with growing consumer demands and ever-changing lifestyles.
“As the industry leader in the donut category, we used our expertise to develop a complete ZGTF program that will meet our customers’ expectations for donuts, specifically around flavor and function to address consumer concerns related to trans fats,” said Tim Busta, product manager, frozen donuts and pastries. “Dawn’s ZGTF frying shortening was formulated and chosen to deliver flavor and performance similar to traditional frying shortening with partially hydrogenated oils,” he added. “Dawn’s ZGTF shortening maintains current fat absorption levels to eliminate increases in total fat content.”
Dawn manufacturers all forms of donuts: raw frozen, frozen ready-to-finish, ready-to-sell, mix, base, and concentrates, as well as icings, fillings and glazes. The Dawn ZGTF program was formulated to work together to yield bakery products that are also ZGTF, including frying shortening.
In addition to their donut line, Dawn offers complete ZGTF solutions for: cakes, muffins, sweet dough and Danish, cookies, brownies, Mexican and Hispanic products and many other sweet goods.
Trans fats have been linked to increased risk in heart disease. They are found in a variety of foods, including vegetable shortenings, baked and snack food, some margarine, and foods made with or fried in partially hydrogenated oils. Trans fatty acids are formed primarily during hydrogenation, however, they do occur naturally. Approximately 80 percent of the trans fats in the average diet come from partially hydrogenated fat, and 20 percent from animal sources. Trans fat has been found to raise LDL cholesterol levels and potentially lower HDL cholesterol levels.
For over 85 years, Dawn’s dedicated employees, outstanding products and valued customers have made the Dawn name synonymous with excellence. American-owned and family operated, Dawn currently supplies a complete line of quality, consistent mixes, bases, icings, glazes, fillings, frozen dough, par-baked and fully-baked products and equipment to the food industry, worldwide.
