DAWN CREATES HUGE CAKE IN CITY'S HONOR

In honor of the city of Monterrey’s 406th anniversary on September 20, 2002, Dawn Food Products and Sam’s Club joined forces to create a huge, 26-foot by 10-foot anniversary cake. The cake was prepared by two bakers from Dawn and two bakers from Sam’s Club at one of the Sam’s Club locations in Monterrey, Mexico. Representatives from Dawn and Sam’s Club presented the cake to Mayor Felipe de Jesus Cantu in front of City Hall. Six thousand residents of the city enjoyed the cake throughout the day as celebrations continued.

The cake consisted of 396 pounds of Dawn White Cake Mix, 119 pounds of egg and the same of water, and 20 pounds of oil, creating 660 pounds of cake batter. It was filled with four pails of Dawn Selectä Cherry Filling and topped with ten cases of Velvetopä Icing. The gigantic cake was completed after an 11-hour process.

Dawn established a presence in Monterrey with the purchase of Mixco in August of 1997. Within five years, Dawn has grown and now employs 235 people throughout Mexico. Mixco was the first to bake a cake for the city in honor of its 400th anniversary, and Dawn has continued this tradition.
