Michelle Vickers, Vice President for Human Resources – Global Functions, has been elected to the Board of Trustees for the Minerva Education and Development Foundation (MEDF), effective January 7, 2021.
The Minerva Education and Development Foundation (MEDF) is a 501(c)(3) Michigan non-profit corporation established in 1992 by visionary women, all members of the Detroit Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
MEDF supports local scholars and has provided over $500,000 in grants and scholarships to organizations that provide inter-generational community services, education, arts, health, or economic development programming.
After her move to Canton, Michigan, Michelle set a goal to become more involved in her new community. She volunteered with local organizations during the 2019 holiday season, but when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, she couldn’t volunteer in person.
By chance, during a Delta Sigma Theta Detroit Chapter alumnae event, Michelle learned the MEDF board was looking for new members. Michelle reached out to get the process started and was elected to the board earlier this fall.
“I’m very excited about this opportunity because I will learn more about the community and help to drive meaningful change,” Michelle says.
Michelle hopes her appointment will encourage Team Members to give back to their own communities.
“It’s been a challenging year for all of us and the act of giving back can have such a positive impact,” she says. “Giving back to the community is in our DNA. We can put people at the top of the Circle of Excellence both inside and outside of Dawn.”
