Don’t let the name fool you. Even though fried chicken and donuts are among everyone’s favorite traditional comfort foods, “traditional” is the last word anyone would use to describe Mojo Donuts & Fried Chicken. Located in Miami, Florida with six locations and counting, this innovative donut shop is always inspired and always innovating. Owned by Jimmy Piedrahita and Willie Munoz, who worked with Mojo Donuts founders to expand from the original coffee house location to make it the growing business it is today, Mojo Donuts prides itself on having the best gourmet donuts in town.

“We are constantly innovating and seeking out inspiration from social media, customers, and the world around us.” Jimmy said. “Some of our best creations have come from a customer asking us, ‘have you ever thought of this’?”

Jimmy attributes this drive to continually create something new from the evolving food industry. With social media and always-on access to what restaurants and chefs are doing, customers expect more. “You can’t do what everyone has always done. You need to be a pioneer,” he added. And this is especially true of donuts.

Mojo Donuts focuses on creating groundbreaking concoctions that keep people coming back. With unique treats like the flan donut, which boasts an entire piece of flan inside a donut, and other unexpected flavor combinations and mash ups, Mojo Donuts seeks to break through the expectations and stereotypes of what a donut should be.

How do they do this day in and day out? With help from their partner, Dawn Foods. They don’t just turn to Dawn for products like Raised A mix, cake mixes, frostings, crèmes, fruit fillings and more, they also rely on Dawn for support, technical expertise and innovative ideas.

“Dawn does a lot for us, “ Jimmy said. “When we opened a new location, our on-site support specialist was there for three days. No other supplier has ever done anything like that for us,” he added.

Additionally, Mojo turns to Dawn for new product ideation. “They are always giving us ideas. When we think of something outside of the box, Dawn gives us input and feedback on how to make it happen, and even make it better.”

When Dawn releases new products, Jimmy knows he will get a first hand tutorial. “Dawn will come out to us with new products, get their hands dirty and be in the back to help us look at everything and think things through on how we can best use it.”

Jimmy also relies on Dawn to help them avoid mistakes. “Dawn is an expert with a lot of experience,” he said. “If we go to them with an idea, they can tell us about similar products that did or didn’t work. They have that industry view we need.”

Mojo Donuts & Fried Chicken has been able to achieve real success with this formula for partnership. They are the first and only donut shop to ever be featured on the Food Network’s show Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and the company has no plans to slow down.

“We hope to grow and open even more locations throughout South Florida and beyond,” Jimmy said. “And we will always focus on creating that wow factor with our products and our collaborations.”
