“We had friends who owned donut shops and the idea of putting our business and retail skills to use for this type of venture was something we knew would give us the work life balance we were seeking,” said Susan. Being home in the evenings for their family was something the couple wanted in their life.

Once they made the decision to buy the business, they never looked back and customers are thrilled they took that leap of faith. What has resulted has been years of delighting customers with whimsical, creative donuts that take decorating to the next level and show consumers that donuts are the perfect treat for any time of day and any occasion.

Heam is the bakery mastermind behind the business and Susan puts her artistry and creativity to work every day decorating signature donuts consumers can’t find anywhere else.

“We make alphabet donuts, sports teams donuts, and unicorns, just to name a few,” Susan said. “She also has created a loyal following of customers who turn to her for kids’ birthday parties and other themed events. “We can take a favorite character or movie and create donuts that have the same magical quality as a cake, “ she added. Susan also notes that today, more and more kids want donuts because the hand-held quality of the treat makes it more fun and interactive than a cake.

Bringing these amazing creations to life not only takes imagination, it takes technical bakery expertise. That is why Station Donuts knew they needed to make the move to Dawn. Previously working with another supplier, Station Donuts wasn’t satisfied with the quality or performance of the mixes and other products they were using.

“We met Dawn Foods at a trade show and many of our donut shop owner-friends suggested we should call Dawn,” Susan said. “We started with trial runs of Dawn product not only because of Dawn’s reputation for service and support, but also because of the company’s leadership in donuts. “We use Superblend Raised Mix and Extender Raised A Extra for our donuts, and they perform well and give us the type of donut we want to sell our customers,” she added.

Even when the business was having a few issues getting the rise out of their donuts that they wanted, they turned to Dawn’s TSR (Technical Service Representative) team to help troubleshoot the issue. “The technical was able to work with us to solve the issue and now the donuts are exactly how I want them to be,” Susan said. “It was a great service and one we did not get from the other supplier.”

What started with donut mix has now expanded into an entire portfolio of Dawn products. “We use fillings, glazes, icings, and mixes,” Susan said. “We are starting to shift everything to Dawn because we have the support and the service with our rep to know we will get what we need.”

While Station Donuts has no immediate plans to add new locations, the business is still full of ideas for growth. “We are always looking for that next creative decorating idea,” Susan added. “We will keep coming up with ideas for donuts that surprise customers and give them new donuts to love.”
