Bakery Spotlight: TSP Baking Company

Family-Owned TSP Baking Company Serving Up LGBTQ+ Support and Awareness in Las Vegas

Long-Time Dawn Foods Customer Supports Causes and Community Year-round

For TSP Baking Company, supporting causes and charities close to their heart has always been part of their recipe for success. And Pride Month – held every year in June, is no exception.

“Being an ally has always been important to us,” said Kari Garcia, owner of TSP Baking Company. “We have family members and friends who are part of the LGBTQ+ community and have always wanted everyone to know our bakery is a welcoming and safe space.”

And TSP’s support goes far beyond its rainbow-themed menu (which has a place in the bakery all year long). TSP celebrates Pride with special promotions and events the last week of June, with 10 percent of all sales going to the Human Rights Campaign (HRC).  “It’s important to donate to HRC for us because we believe in equality for all,” Kari added.

Last year, TSP donated $2,500 and hopes to raise even more this year.

TSP makes a point to celebrate Pride in June even though it’s celebrated in October in Las Vegas. “We think it’s important to bring awareness and support for the LGBTQ+ community along with the rest of the country,” she said.

During Pride Month, Garcia and her husband Richard feature some of their flagship products like their rainbow cookie collection, which includes six sugar cookies, one for each color of the rainbow. There are also mini cupcakes, cakes, and other sweet treats.

“We’ve always leaned into the rainbow for inspiration. We want everyone to know they can come to us for their wedding cakes, celebration cakes, or whatever they need. Everyone is welcome here,” Garcia said.

In addition to being a skilled baker, Garcia is also social-media savvy. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok have allowed her to extend her fundraising power. On TikTok alone, she boasts more than 100k followers.

“We’ve done virtual fundraisers where customers from all parts of the country buy orders and just pay them forward to the next person who comes into the bakery,” she said. TSP has done fundraising for customers too, raising money for one who needed open-heart surgery.

Garcia credits their ability to create a community around the country to more than her social media presence. “It’s also about us being a family-run business,” she added. “That is very unique for Las Vegas, and I think people want to see those family businesses succeed.”

She said that during the height of the COVID-19 lockdown, she had online orders coming in from all over just to help keep them open. “People didn’t want to see us close.”

TSP has no plans of slowing down. “We are planning for our Pride week this year – which starts June 22, and we hope to be able to make a large donation to HRC.”

It’s this recipe of support, donations, community outreach, and sharing a message of equality for all that makes TSP Baking Company one of Las Vegas’s sweetest gems.
