As sponsors of the category Dawn was delighted to present Warren’s Bakery ‘the oldest Cornish Pasty Maker in the World’ with the Craft Bakery Business of the Year Award at the glittering Bakery Industry Awards held in London this week.
A family business, Warrens Bakery has been crafting hand crimped Cornish pasties for more than 150 years. Some of the company’s master bakers have been with Warrens for 50 years, while operational director Jason Jobling learned his trade with bakery, joining at 14 years old.
Today Warrens Bakery has two bakeries in Cornwall and 70 retail stores in the South West, the Midlands and Hampshire, operated on a franchise basis, not only selling their famous Cornish pasties, but a wide range of sweet and savoury products, scones, cakes and sandwiches.
“Warrens Bakery embodies a modern craft bakery business where delicious products are made by master bakers using centuries old skills handed down from generation to generation. The company also has its feet firmly in the modern era too, seeing its business grow by 10% in the last year through a successful franchise model for its shops and by using marketing to drive sales. We were delighted to present them with this well-deserved award,” says Jacqui Passmore from Dawn.
This is first year that the Craft Bakery Business Award has seen the selection of an overall winner from seven regional finalists. The other regional winners were Paul Rhodes Bakery (South East); Genesis Crafty (Northern Ireland); Stephens (Scotland), Just Desserts (North); Clam’s Handmade Cakes (Wales) and Flower & White (Midlands).
