As part of its commitment to nurturing new talent in the bakery industry and ongoing link with University College Birmingham’s prestigious bakery school, Dawn Foods has appointed a new Student Ambassador - Rebecca Orrell, who joins Dawn this Summer.
Rebecca, who is studying a Foundation Degree in Bakery and Patisserie at UCB will be working with Dawn Foods for the next six months to gain valuable insight into the operation of a major bakery manufacturer as well as partnering with Dawn on several NPD projects. She will be working closely with Robin Loud, Dawn Foods’ Application Chef on developing new ideas for Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day as well as blogging about her experiences.
Laura Gibbons, also from UCB, was Dawn’s first Student Ambassador in 2017 and worked on several exciting projects to re-create traditional bakery favourites in new formats and with different ingredients, as part of the company’s Creating New Traditions Campaign.
Originating from Lancashire, Rebecca says baking is in her genes; her great-great Grandad was a baker, while relatives in America owned the 20th Century Bakery in Williamsport PA.
“Baking is in my family and I love it. My passion was brought to life whilst baking with my Grandma when I was young and I am determined to learn as much as possible to develop my skills further,” she says.
Rebecca enjoys producing elegant desserts, delicious chocolates and artisan breads and has a keen interest in NPD.
