While more consumers say they are not officially “celebrating” on Valentine’s day, many will still mark the event in some way. More than a third of those under the age of 35 who say they are not “celebrating” still have plans to splurge on themselves or spend time with other single friends. Apart from Valentine’s day, what is increasingly popular these days is the Anti-Valentine’s Day and Galentine’s Day celebration.
The recent Anti-Valentine’s Day trends include treating yourself or your single friends with sugar cookies/macaroons/cupcakes with cold-hearted messages like “fries before guys”, “over it”, “love bites”, “It’s not me, it’s you”, or “love stinks”. To celebrate Anti-Valentine’s this year, consumers will be hosting online parties for single friends and engaging in activities like making heart candies with cold messages or Anti- Valentine’s Day cupcake toppers. Personalised M&M’s with messages like “Sashay away”, “Leave me alone” can also be gifted. What would be more fitting for an Anti-Valentine’s celebration than a Black Velvet cake?
Another interesting trend gaining popularity is women celebrating each other and friendships with all their gal pals on Galentine’s Day. How about hosting an all pink party for your favourite girls with a spread of treats like pink donuts, stained glass cookie pops, strawberry tarts, conversation heart cookie bars and strawberry kebabs?
